Setting Up DNS for Sending Emails via Comsend - beta

Sending emails through your own domain (e.g., admin@yourshul.org) makes your communication look professional and trustworthy. It also improves email deliverability — reducing the chance that your campaign messages, receipts, or reminders get flagged as spam.

By completing the steps in this guide, you'll ensure your emails are authenticated and reliably delivered to your members' inboxes.

Before You Begin: Make Sure the Right Person Handles DNS Setup

DNS settings are sensitive and affect your institution’s domain. If you're not the person who manages your website or domain, please share this guide with someone who is — such as your website administrator, IT support person, or whoever manages your domain (e.g., GoDaddy, Cloudflare, etc.).
Making incorrect changes in your DNS can disrupt email delivery for your whole organization.

Step 1: Enter Your "From Email" in the Custom From Email section

  1. Log into Comsend as an admin.

  2. Go to the Custom From Email settings section under Preferences.

  3. Enter the "From Email" you plan to use (e.g., purim@myschul.org).

  4. Click Authenticate Domain.

🔍 What happens here?

  • Comsend sends an API request to SendGrid, its email delivery system.

  • SendGrid returns three new CNAME records (you'll need to furnish these new values every time you click Authenticate).

  • These are specific to your institute — and need to be added to your DNS host (e.g., GoDaddy, Wix, Cloudflare).

Step 2: Add the CNAME Records to Your DNS

This step is necessary because Comsend cannot send authenticated email from your domain unless your domain provider confirms permission via DNS records.

Go to your domain registrar or DNS provider (e.g., GoDaddy, Cloudflare).
2. Add three new DNS records using the values provided in Comsend.

⚠️ Important:

  • Use CNAME as the record type.

  • The first column in Comsend is the Name/Host field.

  • The second column is the Value/Points to field.

  • TTL: You can keep the default value (e.g., 30 minutes).

💡 Tip: Different providers may call the "Name" field Host, Alias, or something else — it's the same thing.

Example from Godaddy:

Step 3: Wait a Few Minutes, Then Click Verify

  • After adding the DNS records, wait at least a few minutes to allow for DNS propagation.

  • Then return to Comsend and click Verify.

❗ If you click Verify too soon, it won’t break anything — the domain will just stay in "Pending" status until the DNS is visible to SendGrid.

Once verified, the status will change to "Verified" in Comsend.

Step 4: Send a Test Email

  1. Compose and send a test email using the verified domain.

  2. Check your inbox and email activity logs.

If everything is configured correctly, the email will be sent from your domain using Comsend + SendGrid.

Optional: Clean Up Old Records (Advanced)

If you need to reset the process or switch domains:

  • You may need to delete the previous CNAME records in your DNS.

  • Look for records that point to ************************************************sendgrid.net..
