The Pricing Table allows you to create any number of pricing levels (aka tiers) with custom pricing for each, either with bulk pricing per the entire range or per selection. In addition, you may choose for a new price to kick-in and apply it to all previous selections once a certain number of selections is reached. While this opens an endless number of possibilities, following we will describe the popular models and some of the benefits of each.
The Flat Pricing, where you charge a single fee per selection, is the most straightforward pricing model you can offer. In the above example you will be charging $4 per selection.
The Buy-In Option
The Buy-in Option sets a different price for the first selection or group of selections. This guarantees that every participant in the campaign will pay at least a minimum amount, in the above case $20. It also encourages members to select the total number of members in the first range since they will be charged the fixed amount whether they select one or the full number in the range. This helps increase the number of selections overall and contributes to your community-building goals (it potentially also increases Reciprocity entries - see below).
Pricing Levels with Buy-in
In the above example we see the Buy-in in the first row of the table followed by pricing levels with decreasing per-selection fees as the number of selections increase. This is a common structure, encouraging members to maximize their selections.
Adding Surcharge to Members Orders
For an opt-in surcharge fee for members see Products.
Reciprocity
Reciprocity is optional yet a very popular feature for Purim Project customers and accounts for significant funds raised. By enabling the Reciprocity option for your members, a member selecting to opt-in to reciprocity (through a button on the Purim Project website) will trigger the following: Purim Project will automatically select others who selected that member, if the member didn’t already select them.
Reciprocity Example:
• Joe and Susan Cohen made their selections, did not select Sam and Rena Levy, and selected the Reciprocity option.
• Sam and Rena Levy selected Joe and Susan Cohen.
• Purim Project will auto-add Sam and Rena Levy to Joe and Susan Cohen’s selections.
Reciprocity options
1. Separate pricing: Reciprocity selections are priced at a separate fee from your regular selections. We often recommend that you price these slightly higher.
2. Flat Fee: A flat fee to enable Reciprocity instead of the above per selection fee. If you do, be sure to enforce a minimum number of selections.
3. Enforcing a minimum number of selections: Whether or not you set a flat fee for reciprocity, you can enforce a minimum number of selections
before allowing the members to choose the Reciprocity feature.
4. Exclude reciprocity for members who select all: The triggering of reciprocity entries can be precluded for members who select all. Often customers
choose this option since some members don’t want to reciprocate with others who send to all.
5. Allow members to edit reciprocity after the campaign end: This feature will allow you to invite your members to edit (remove only) the results of reciprocity
selections after the campaign end date.
Max Selections Cost (Send To All)
Purim Project allows you to select a maximum cost on selections. This option is most frequently used for “send to all”, i.e. if the member chooses to send to the entire community (Special Delivery charges can be over the max selections cost). Reciprocity charges are also capped by the Max Selections Cost, but of course
Products are not.
Category Pricing
Category pricing lets members choose an entire category for a single price, encouraging more selections and simplifying the selection process. Examples of categories are “Sisterhood”, “Youth Group” and “Board Members”. Category pricing is common in schools, for the selection of an entire class or grade, or for the selection of a teacher’s category. A best practice for synagogues and temples is to offer attractive pricing for the selection of a “New Members” category, encouraging members to send their welcome greetings to new families who joined your community.
Discounts
Purim Project allows you to introduce custom discounts which can be shared with select members and are taken into account in the member’s invoice calculation. Discounts for teachers are common in schools, as an example.
Additional Gifts
In some communities the Purim Project committee offers members a special service to send Purim baskets to families that are not on the member list. In such cases the basket is “one-to-one” and as such needs to be financed entirely by the member. Purim Project allows you to include various types and several products to sell to your members via the Products module which you can learn about
here.
Special Delivery
Purim Project has an option to add a Special Delivery charge to select members. This option is typically used for members who live outside the immediate region of your community and who may require a delivery charge (e.g. UPS).
What Pricing Model and options are right for you?
Choosing the right pricing model for your community is more art than science. Different parameters to consider are:
- Your costs
- Your fundraising goals – the emphasis of fundraising and community building.
- The size of your community
- The level of anticipated participation
It’s possible that one model is good for the first year, and another for subsequent years. Be sure to consult with us to help you determine what’s best for your community.
